Fort Pierre, SD (May 28, 2023) – A young child and both of their grandparents have died as a result of an explosion that took place on Wednesday morning just outside of Fort Pierre.
Reports indicate that a home exploded on May 24 at around 10:20 a.m. The incident flattened the entire home, scattering debris approximately 100 yards in every direction.
The Stanley County Sheriff’s Office and local firefighters rushed to the scene to provide assistance.
Inside the home, a 61-year-old woman and a six-month-old baby were located with fatal injuries. A third victim, identified as a 66-year-old man, was severely hurt. The man was rushed to an area hospital, where he passed away from his injuries.
The authorities confirm that two additional boys were injured as a result of the explosion. However, the severity of the injuries that they have suffered is not known at this time.
Investigations are currently underway to determine what caused this explosion to take place.
