Kent, CT (July 2, 2023) – Multiple victims were left with injuries as a result of a boat explosion that took place on Saturday, July 1.

At approximately 11:30 a.m., the Kent Fire Department and police were called to the scene of an incident that occurred at Leonard Pond.

Reports from authorities show that a boat exploded outside of Club Gateway during the morning hours. The incident prompted officials to close off the area as they worked to provide assistance. The fire department worked quickly to extinguish the initial fire. However, authorities had to secure the area as a result of the potential contamination of the pond.

Four people involved in the incident suffered injuries. Emergency medical services responded to the scene to care for the victims. Two of the injured parties were subsequently transported to local hospitals, where they underwent further medical treatment.

The incident remains under investigation by the Fire Marshals at this time.

We hope all of the people who suffered injuries due to this explosion are able to recover quickly.

Explosions in Connecticut

Explosions in the United States occur far too often, with hundreds of reported incidents each year. Regrettably, these explosions often result in severe injuries that have profound and lasting impacts on the lives of those involved. When it comes to injuries from explosions, they are generally classified into four main types. These include:

  • Primary: Primary injuries result directly from the shock waves produced by the explosion. Victims commonly suffer damage to their ears and lungs due to intense force.
  • Secondary: Secondary injuries, on the other hand, are caused by shrapnel and debris propelled by the blast. These flying objects often lead to eye injuries involving bleeding and penetrating trauma.
  • Tertiary: Tertiary injuries occur as a result of the sudden displacement of air, which can cause victims to sustain blunt or penetrating wounds, including traumatic amputations and fractures.
  • Quaternary: Quaternary injuries encompass a wide range of consequences, such as burns, respiratory issues, and crushing injuries resulting from the explosion's impact.
