Antioch, IL (July 25, 2023) – An explosion took place in the unincorporated Antioch area that claimed one person’s life. At around 6:30 p.m. on July 21, the Newport Township Fire Protection District responded to the scene of an explosion that occurred on North Crawford Road.

Reports show that an explosion occurred near a barn located in the 43100 block of the roadway. The flames overtook the barn, causing severe damage.

Firefighters and emergency crews out of McHenry County rushed to the scene to assist. Crews went to work immediately on battling the flames.

An older male was located in the vicinity, suffering from significant burn injuries. The victim, identified as an 84-year-old man, was transported to Loyola University Medical Center in the Maywood area for emergency care. Authorities confirmed that the man passed away from his injuries on July 22.

At this time, the incident is being investigated by the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
