Oak Park, IL (July 27, 2023) – One person was rushed to a local hospital with injuries following a suspected gas explosion that occurred on Wednesday afternoon, July 26.

According to reports from the Oak Park firefighters, an explosion occurred in the 200 block of South Maple Street. Crews arrived at the scene and located a collapsed section of wall on the structure, which was identified as an Oak Park residential building. The six-unit structure caught on fire following the explosion, displacing a total of 12 people.

One person, identified as an adult male, was critically injured. The man was rushed to Loyola University Medical Center for emergency medical care.
