Ohio County, WV (August 15, 2023) – On Sunday evening, emergency crews out of Ohio County responded to the scene of an explosion incident that sent two people to area hospitals with injuries.

The incident occurred at around 11:00 p.m. on August 13.

According to reports, a tank located inside the Southwestern Energy Franz Thoman well pad site exploded for unknown reasons. Immediately after the explosion, the tank caught on fire.

Two people were injured as a result of the explosion. One victim was transported to a burn unit in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, by medical helicopter for the treatment of first-degree and second-degree burns. The second victim was transported to Wheeling Hospital and then transported to the Pittsburgh burn unit.

At this time, the incident is being investigated.
