MacClenny, FL (September 5, 2023) – A fatal explosion was reported in the MacClenny neighborhood that claimed one man’s life.
The incident was reported to the Baker County Sheriff’s office at around two a.m. on September 4.
According to officials, a home located on Crews Street exploded during the early morning hours. The incident caused the entire roof of the home to catch on fire.
Firefighters responded to the scene of the incident and began battling the blaze.
Authorities reported that there were oxygen tanks inside of the home at the time of the explosion. After the initial explosion, the power box caught on fire, which caused multiple sparks to fly from everywhere.
A man and a woman inside the home suffered injuries. The female victim and two dogs at the residence were all fatally injured. They were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The woman, who was identified as the wife of the man, was transported to an area hospital. She underwent emergency treatment for smoke inhalation and burn injuries.
At this time, the State Fire Marshal’s Office is working to determine what caused the explosion to take place.
