Braxton County, WV (September 9, 2023) – An explosion reported in the Heaters area sent one man to a local medical facility with injuries.
At around 8:15 a.m. on September 7, the West Virginia Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene of an explosion that took place on Salt Mill Road. Firefighters with the Flatwoods Volunteer Fire Department also responded to assist.
According to officials, a man was working on a charcoal-making process, which is referred to as biochar, when an explosion occurred. The flames shot out between 10 feet and 12 feet from the front of the oven, causing significant damage and injuries to the man.
The man suffered injuries to his forearms, arms, and chest. He was transported to a hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he was admitted in critical condition.
At this time, the incident is being investigated by Occupational Safety and Health Administration at this time.
