North Platte, NE (September 14, 2023) – A major explosion reported on Thursday in Nebraska’s largest railyard prompted a major evacuation in Western Nebraska.
On September 14, authorities were called to the site of an explosion at the Union Pacific’s Bailey Yard. According to officials, a railcar at the railyard was affected by a major explosion, which occurred inside an intermodal container. The railcar was carrying perchloric acid, which is a toxic chemical that is used for making explosives, drug products, and foods.
The explosion caused a major fire to occur, which sent sparks and toxic smoke up into the air.
The explosion prompted authorities to evacuate all residents within a four-mile radius of the incident as they worked to extinguish the fire.
At this time, the incident is being investigated.
Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by this explosion.
Explosions in Nebraska
Every year, explosions across the United States wreak havoc on thousands of families. These incidents are often preventable and a result of some form of negligence. Even though there are steps that could be taken to avoid explosions in most cases, we continue to see the devastating aftermath that these events bring.
One type of explosion situation that is truly dire is when the incidents involve trains and other commercial locomotives. These trains travel at high speeds, carrying extremely dangerous substances that individuals in the nearby area have no idea about until it is too late. When this type of explosion occurs, the results are often widespread.
Just in February 2023, our national explosion attorneys at Burg Simpson took part in the filing of a class action complaint seeking damages for individuals who were affected by the train derailment in East Palestine. Like East Palestine, the Nebraska explosion prompted the evacuation of individuals and families within a four-mile radius of the railyard. This type of event can lead to serious disruptions in a person’s life and health complications that can linger on for months or even years, water pollution, and many other problems. We firmly believe that individuals who have been forced to deal with this type of event deserve justice. For this reason, we are committed to helping those affected take legal action.
When individuals are forced to deal with the overwhelming consequences that come with explosions, they deserve fair compensation for their losses and damages. We will fight to ensure that those harmed are able to get the money needed for any loss of property, pain and suffering, medical costs, and more. To date, we have recovered more than $1 billion in damages for our clients. Over 100 recoveries were in excess of $1 million, ensuring that those we represent are able to deal with the financial and non-economic damages that they face during these very challenging times.
