Philadelphia, PA (October 7, 2023) – A half of a dozen people were left with significant injuries following an explosion that took place in the upper Roxborough neighborhood on Wednesday, October 4.
At around 3:20 p.m., the police and firefighters were called to the scene of a major incident that occurred on East Flat Rock Road.
According to official reports, an explosion took place on the roadway during the afternoon hours. Authorities arrived at the scene and witnessed smoke coming out of a trailer.
Fire crews went to work quickly on battling the blaze. After the fire was extinguished, medics provided care to injured victims.
A total of six people, identified as construction workers, all suffered critical burn injuries. Two of the victims were 22 years old, one victim was 27 years old, one victim was 30 years old, one victim was 32 years old, and the sixth victim was 48 years old. All of the victims were rushed to area hospitals for emergency care.
The cause of the explosion is currently being investigated. However, authorities state that early investigations indicate that a generator explosion near or on the work trailer may be the cause.
