Middleton, ID (October 13, 2023) – A major explosion was reported in the Middleton area on Thursday morning, October 12.
According to reports provided by the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office, a major gas pipeline exploded in the area near a rural intersection late in the morning. The pipeline that exploded was responsible for carrying natural gas through multiple states along the northwestern side of the United States. The pipeline is owned by the Williams Companies.
The explosion prompted officials to evacuate a parameter of four square miles surrounding the incident. This evacuation included the entire town of Middleton, Idaho.
Authorities remained at the scene extensively as they worked to clear the area.
One person was injured as a result of the incident. The Middleton Fire Department confirmed that the victim was provided transportation by ambulance to a local hospital for emergency care.
At this time, the incident is being investigated.
