Woodstock, IL (October 14, 2023) – The firefighters were transported to an area hospital with injuries following a house explosion that took place in the Woodstock area.

The explosion occurred at around 12:35 p.m. on Monday, October 9.

Reports from law enforcement indicate that an explosion took place in the area of North Tyrone Street and Lincoln Street early in the afternoon. The incident leveled one home and damaged nine other buildings, including a school and a church. Fires were reported after the explosion, which is believed to have been caused by a gas leak.

Firefighters with the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District responded to the scene to battle the blaze. Further reports indicate that the explosion occurred inside of a two-story home located in the 200 block of Lincoln Street.

Two firefighters were injured as a result of the explosion and transported to local hospitals.

At this time, the circumstances surrounding the explosion are being investigated.
