Chisholm, MN (November 7, 2023) – A woman and her child were both left injured as a result of an explosion that occurred in St. Louis County on Sunday, November 5.
At around 10:45 a.m., the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of a major incident that occurred on Countryside Lane in Balkan Township.
According to official reports, a twenty-pound propane tank that was attached to a heater inside of a cabin located in the 11,600 block of the roadway exploded. As a result of the explosion, the cabin caught on fire with a woman and her 12-year-old son inside.
The woman and child both suffered significant burns to a large portion of their bodies. The two victims were rushed by ambulance to Hibbing Hospital for emergency care.
The Chisholm Fire Department, Buhl Fire Department, and the Hibbing Fire Department all joined in on battling the blaze and taking control of the situation.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office joined in on the investigation to determine what caused the explosion to occur. At this time, these investigations are ongoing.
